Frogs are common throughout the world. There are over 85 species here in the United States. The most common species include treefrogs, toads and bullfrogs. Treefrogs and bullfrogs are most common where there is adequate water for their survival and reproduction. Toads are more prevalent where it is dry. Though treefrogs are considered beneficial because they eat insects, in some cases local populations can become a nuisance.

Treefrogs can become a problem for many reasons. Treefrogs mostly live in trees but will find their way onto homes. Once there, they will nest and hide behind shutters, under siding and anywhere away from sunlight during the day. At night they will emerge to feed. The problem with having treefrogs on your home is that they tend to make a mess. Their droppings will quickly accumulate below where they are nesting. Treefrog droppings look a lot like rat droppings and can easily fool people into believing they have a rodent problem.

If you are finding these droppings along window sills or below sections of your home and suspect treefrogs are to blame, do a thorough inspection of the area. Treefrogs like to crawl into well shaded areas that will seem to be tight and compressed. These small gaps are just what the treefrogs like so remember to look carefully for all such locations. Once you are sure you have active treefrogs, there are several products that can be applied to drive them away.

If you have a lot of cracks and crevices in which the treefrogs can nestle, use some DRIONE DUST to repel them. Drione dust is commonly used on homes for various insects. Largely comprised of silica gel, Drione will irritate the treefrogs and cause them to move away. Be sure to get the product up and into all cracks and crevices where you suspect treefrogs may be crawling. Use a HAND DUSTER to apply the Drione as it will enable you to get the product where it needs to go.

If you have large areas where they are active and it's out in the open, you might opt for a liquid material to spray. There isn't any spray for frogs but there is one active which is both highly active on flying insects as well as naturally repellent to treefrogs. They will avoid treated areas and when the local insect population decreases due to the treatment, so too will the treefrogs. They will be forced to seek food elsewhere. This spray is CYPERMETHRIN and should be applied with a SPRAYER. Be sure to cover all areas where you either know or suspect treefrogs are active. This will usually be around lights, light fixtures, shutters that surround windows, windows and gutters.

Another approach that doesn't involve chemicals is the use of GLUEBOARDS. Set these out over ledges and other areas where treefrogs are landing. They will get stuck in the glue and can be disposed of once the trap fills up with frogs. If you don't wish to kill the treefrogs caught, they can be removed by rubbing vegetable oil on them and the glue. This will detach the glue and let you set them free elsewhere. Be sure to take them at least 1 mile away so they don't return to your home.

Treefrogs can become a nuisance around the home. Though not commonly though of as a pest, treefrog control may be needed when populations are left to grow with no natural predators. If you have a local population on your home making a mess and want to get the treefrogs to relocate, start applying some of the products we have listed above. Within a week or two you'll notice less activity and if you treat every month or so, they will stay away for good.
