PRODUCT NAME: Bridger Leghold Trap. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: This is the traditional designed trap which leg holds the target animal. There are two springs, one on each side of the jaws, which are compressed when setting the trap. To set, the springs are compressed and the jaws are opened. The trip latch is then set under the Pan which sets the trap. Animals are trapped live by their leg. TARGET ANIMALS: Although this trap has been used for many animals over the years, it is still primarily used as a beaver trap. However, leghold traps are a staple for trappers targeting coyote, fox, bobcat, raccoon and mink. WHERE TO USE IT: Like coil traps, long spring traps are a live trap that works by capturing live animals just above their feet. Set them along trails you know mink are traveling or where they are scenting. Musky odors left by mink are sure signs of territorial markings and can be a good place to make a set. Other good locations are where they are sliding along river or creek beds, culvert openings or fence holes. Mink will use their trails over and over so make sets where you know or suspect they are foraging. Another very effective set is to bait a "pocket" which you create along a river or creek bed. Placed in this pocket, the hole should be just below the water line so the trap is hidden below the water line. Food lure should be placed above the set and out of the water so it will release scent. Curious mink will readily enter the pocket in search of food and get trapped. RATE OF APPLICATION: This will vary from job to job. Generally, the more traps employed, the quicker you catch your target animals. Although you can start with only one, it is suggested that you use 2-3 per set location. PACKAGING AND COST: Bridger long spring traps are available in many sizes. The most common for mink would be #11 or #2 traps. These should be able to hold most any size animal. The #11 trap (ITEM # 825054)
The #2 trap (ITEM # 825059)
