PRAIRIE DOG LEGHOLD TRAPS





PRODUCT NAME:   Prairie Dog Leghold Traps.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:   Trap which catches catches Prairie Dogs by their legs.
Set them outside borrow and den openings which are known to
have active dogs. Try to cover or disguise them by covering
them slightly with some dirt, dust, vegetation, etc. There
is no exact technique for this; most trappers will develop
a strategy which works for them over time. When dogs step
on the trip pan they will activate the trap and get caught.

WHERE TO USE IT:   At the top of main burrows and mounds where you know
you have active Prairie Dogs. Be sure to use some strong stakes
or anchors to keep the traps in place. Though the risk of the
Prairie Dog carrying the trap away is small, scavengers are
much stronger and likely to take the trapped animal along
with your trap if given the chance.

RATE OF APPLICATION:   Try to place one outside any tunnel which you believe
is active. The more you have set the quicker you will trap
targeted dogs.

PACKAGING AND COST:   Leghold traps are available in two forms; the
traditional Long Spring design and the newer Coil type. The Long
Spring is available in a #1 which is on the right in the picture
above. Though the #1 is generally strong enough to hold any
prairie dog, you may need to use the #11. It looks the same
but features two springs instead of one. The Coil trap is
pictured on the left side of the picture above. It too comes
in different sizes. Though the #1 is usually strong enough
to hold most dogs, larger animals will require the use of
the #1.65. The prices of these traps are as follows:
